Hi everyone!

I very excited to let you all know that I just adopted this forum effective today! I run a couple of groups on SU, there's one listed on my about page, you can take a look at that one if you'd like to get an idea of how my groups can get. ;) I'm looking forward to getting this group active again in the coming weeks. I know we're all busy with Spring here and Summer around the corner - sorry Oz and NZ, etc, I know you're busy, too! - but I think we'll find time to breathe some life into this group and have some fun!

Please start posting any time! I think it's a good idea to post a new topic on each thread. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not a stickler for keeping on topic. ;) It's up to the person who started the thread to let their feelings be known about that - I'm all for having fun. I just expect folks to go by the SU forum rules because that means we'll all get along fine!

It's great to adopt a forum because I get to welcome so many people already! I'm glad you're all here and I look forward to more folks joining. YAY! :) Thank you. :)

Hi BC! Yes, and I hope we'll not be reminiscing about it anytime soon. Especially since I wasn't a member before! ;)

*Expects a vintage kittens galore*

Nostalgia is a very local thing...I don't expect anybody in the US can really feel for my nostalgia (Brinta anybody? AM Schmidt?). Hope there is some common ground.

I was just going to say that I promise to post no kittens! But actually, there can be nostalgic kittens, can't there!

I think there can be plenty of common ground. I'd love to see what is nostalgia to your culture, even if I can't comment. And it might inspire me to do some googling, who knows. Some of us share periods of time in common, and we might find things in common from that. Who knows? We'll find out - I hope!

oh cool - I joined a month ago - only to see it come up on my forum page once in that time, but I keep meaning to go through it and gather all the links out of it, and then dispense with it - but now I wont do that -

three cheers for tdb - hip hip hooray - hip hip - HOORAY - HIP HIP - HOORAY !!!

actually Im crazy about things that are retro 50's and 60's ... like the stuff from Plan59 ... thats why I originally joined up here ... especially SITEs that dress themselves up in costume from that era ... you know? when the site itself is well designed to fit with the scene ...

Awwwwww THANKS rumi!! I hope we can do something with this group!

I just looked at the Plan59 site and it's terrific! And yes I know what you mean about the site design.

80's does seem recent for nostalgia, doesn't it. Well. Let's see how it goes!

You brought up something interesting to me. And maybe to do with getting this group active. I don't know.

I think we need to and should post sites. But we need to have something to talk about, too.

I'm used to my forums where we post and discuss articles. Maybe we can talk about nostalgic events here too, in addition to the sites that contain the pictures of the objects, areas, food, clothing, etc, etc, of the past.

Just thinking out loud. All ideas welcome!

      nostalgia
1770, "severe homesickness" (considered as a disease), Mod.L. (cf. Fr. nostalgie, 1802), coined 1668 by Johannes Hofer as a rendering of Ger. heimweh, from Gk. nostos "homecoming" + algos "pain, grief, distress." Transferred sense (the main modern one) of "wistful yearning for the past" first recorded 1920.
Its interesting, I dont think there are any other words in English that use nostos for one of their roots ... it shows up on google as mostly Greek related sites -

HA - HA - xyzz and I on the same wavelength I see :D
